Letter from the President:                                                     April  2006

 Greetings!

I am writing this letter to celebrate, encourage, and invite everyone to attend our next La Moine River Ecosystem Partnership meeting on May 24 at which we will begin the implementation phase of our Watershed Plan.  This will be the FUN part, and we need all of your ideas on what to tackle first.

When:  May 24, 2006 ------ 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Where:  Industry School --- on Rt 24 in Industry, IL
Refreshments will be served.

  • We will celebrate the completion of our watershed plan and the publishing of the enclosed summary brochure. Also, we will be celebrating projects within the Partnership that have been funded by C-2000 and IEPA thus far.
  • We will familiarize everyone on how to use the plan to secure funding for projects that preserve, protect, and enhance the watershed.
  • We will encourage and invite those to join on as willing land owners within the Partnership to help identify projects, stimulate funding, and convince others of the dedication of the Partnership’s membership network
  • We invite everyone to share your ideas and energy to help evaluate the Plan and contribute to the future planning and implementation process.

This La Moine River Ecosystem Partnership Plan was written over the past two and a half years with the assistance of a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ C-2000 Program and a very dedicated group of local stakeholders. It is a comprehensive Plan that oversees the preservation, protection, and enhancement of the La Moine River Ecosystem Partnership for years to come.  Thank you to all who helped develop this plan. This Partnership includes all of Schuyler and Brown Counties and portions of McDonough, Fulton, Adams, and Hancock.

It is the hope of this LMREP Board and all the working committees, that the citizens of this Partnership will utilize this Plan to secure future available funding for this geographic area and to support on-the-ground conservation projects that will fulfill the goals and objectives contained within it.  Currently, six conservation projects within our Partnership have been funded and implemented (through IDNR C-2000 grants). With this Plan in-hand now, many more opportunities lie ahead for us as we partner with willing landowners, an increased number of committed stakeholders and additional funding sources.

Our Plan will serve as a great tool to inform others about the importance of a protected watershed and assist us in developing increased partnerships and collaboration with landowners, municipalities, the commerce community and other decision makers within our Partnership. As our region grows and develops both economically and demographically the importance of protecting our watershed is paramount.

We need your help in determining what we will accomplish in year one of our Plan implementation.  These will be the on-the-ground projects that many of you have shown interest in initiating or participating in. Please attend this meeting and assist us in this process.  Also, learn what possible funding sources are out there that we might pursue in order to make these projects attainable to our land owners.

RSVP by May 17 if you plan to attend so we can send out a more detailed agenda before the meeting.

E-mail or call: Tim Sullivan  at tsullivan@sid5.com  or 217-322-2865

If you e-mail your RSVP, we will be able to send the agenda out quickly via email.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
